Mt. Holyoke Cancels ‘Vagina Monologues’ Because It Leaves Out One Relevant Voice

SOUTH HADLEY (CBS) — A legendary play has closed shop at Mount Holyoke College.

The College’s Project Theatre Board has decided to cancel its annual production of “The Vagina Monologues,” saying in an email to students that the wide range of women the play includes is just not “inclusive” enough, Campus Reform reports. 

That’s because it doesn’t include a transgender voice.

The play has expanded over the years to include diverse female scenarios that highlight gender-based violence. Since the all-women’s college has now started accepting male students who identify themselves as female, the play may still fall behind the times.

“At its core, the show offers an extremely narrow perspective on what it means to be a woman,” according to the email sent to students obtained by Campus Reform.
